"I have to learn well from Coach Kim Seung-gi. If I want to talk about my own basketball, I have to learn first."

Coach Kim Kang-seon, the 'youngest leader' of professional basketball team Goyang Sono, has ended his active career after the 2023-2024 season.

Unlike last season when he was the captain leading the team, Coach Kim is now at the 'bottom of the hierarchy' in the Sono coaching staff.

Coach Kim, who has been working as a coach since last June, organizes the players' data and records the training situation behind the scenes when Manager Seung-gi Kim is in full command of the training.

In one hand, instead of a basketball, he carries a strategy board and a tactical notebook.

Coach Kim, who is busy adjusting to his new life, is learning basketball in earnest.

During Sono's training held in Taipei, Taiwan on the 12th, Coach Kim repeatedly yelled at players who were not familiar with the defensive line.

Coach Kim quietly explained the detailed movements of shooters including Dong-Seop Lim.

Coach Kim revealed in an interview with reporters that at first it felt quite awkward to be called 'coach' by the players with whom he had been through thick and thin.

He laughed and said, "There were players who called me 'hyung', but now everyone calls me 'coach'."

Coach Kim, who played a total of 576 regular league games, actually had regrets about his playing career.

Although I dreamed of becoming a leader, the reason I did not readily accept the offer from the club to become a coach was because I felt it was a shame to end my career as a player like this.

Coach Kim said, "I did say, 'I want to play a little longer,' but it was 토토 time to decide (to retire) anyway," and "When I first saw the players (as a coach), I also wanted to play."

Then he laughed heartily and said, "I'm comfortable now. I'm so happy I don't have to exercise."

When Baek Ji-woong repeatedly missed three-point shots from the corner, Coach Kim snatched the ball and threw it, saying, "Why can't I make this?" and the shot cleanly went through the rim.

Coach Kim is still hesitant to reveal his vision as a coach. He believes he lacks the skills as a coach to talk about his own style of basketball.

He said, "I'm still in the learning stage. It's not the time to suggest a framework and say that I'll play that kind of basketball. I need to learn more to be able to talk about my own style of basketball."

Although Coach Kim said he still has a long way to go as a leader, he supported Coach Seung-gi Kim's basketball.

Under coach Seung-gi Kim, Sono is the team that makes the most three-point shots among the 10 professional basketball teams.

There are many teams that shun outside shots and focus on high-probability attacks under the basket, but in Sono, if you don't shoot with confidence, you get yelled at.

Coach Kim also believes that this style of basketball is desirable.

He emphasized, "As a basketball player, you naturally need to be able to shoot. If you shoot a lot, you will have more offensive opportunities. If you increase the number of attacks, your shooting success rate will also increase to a certain extent."

Coach Kim, who recorded a 40.7% 3-point success rate since his rookie year, may not have a high career 3-point success rate (33.9%), but he boldly shot outside shots when the defense was a little weak.

During the two seasons he played under coach Kim Seung-gi, he attempted 3.5 three-pointers per game.
